Blaine gets defensive, beats Andover

• BLAINE 24, ANDOVER 3: The Bengals got their best defensive effort of the season, holding Andover to a single field goal, and improved to 5-1 with a victory Thursday. Running back Luiz Sanchez rushed for 161 yards and a touchdown for Blaine, which rushed for 252 yards in the game. That rushing attack allowed Blaine to control the clock and keep Andover's offense off the field as the Bengals held on to the ball for more than 30 minutes.

Blake wins anniversary game with SPA

• BLAKE 49, ST. PAUL ACADEMY 8: It was nearly 100 years ago that Blake and St. Paul Academy met on the football field for the first time. Thursday's result -- in the 86th meeting between the two schools -- turned out much the same way as the first-ever game, which was played on Nov. 2, 1911. Blake won that game, too. Thursday, Blake broke open a close game by scoring 21 second-quarter points and added another three touchdowns in the third quarter. Marcus Berg rushed for three touchdowns afor Blake, which improved to 2-4. St. Paul Academy fell to 0-6.

CLASSIC LAKE

• WAYZATA 28, EDINA 7: Quarterback Nick Martin passed for Wayzata's first two touchdowns of the game and added a touchdown rushing as the No. 2, 5A Trojans improved to 5-0 and 2-0 in the conference. Antonio Ford added a rushing touchdown for Wayzata.

ST. PAUL CITY

• HIGHLAND PARK 15, COMO PARK 14: Chris Mitchell provided the force on both side of the ball for the Scots, who evened their record at 3-3. Mitchell rushed 17 times for 87 yards, caught four passes for 17 yards and made a crucial tackle on a two-point conversion attempt by Como Park after the Cougars had pulled to within one point on a touchdown by Fred Welch in the final minute.
