BOLD coach Derek Flann knows he stepped into a great situation. Flann, in his first year after taking over for Hall of Fame head coach Steve Solem and a 1999 graduate of BOLD, inherited a talented group that came within a point of winning the Class 1A championship a year ago.

“The whole job of the coach was just ‘Don’t screw this thing up,’ ” he said. “The ship’s in the right direction.”

Flann let his athletes do what they do Saturday in a 56-7 romp over Browerville/Eagle Valley in a Class 1A semifinal at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Quarterback Jordan Sagedahl displayed his stellar arm, passing for 355 yards and six touchdowns in just three quarters of work. The Warriors’ do-everything athlete, Gavin Vosika, did most of his damage on the receiving end of those Sagedahl throws, making 10 catches for 232 yards and four touchdowns.

The BOLD defense was just as good. It took an early body shot from the Tigers, who drove 64 yards on 17 plays in just over nine minutes to take a 7-0 lead on the game’s opening drive. After that, the Warriors held the Tigers to just 46 total yards.

First report

After taking Browerville/Eagle Valley’s best shot in the first quarter, undefeated BOLD showed exactly why it’s been ranked No. 1 in Class 1A all season, riding the arm of quarterback Jordan Sagedahl to a 56-7 victory.

Sagedahl passed for 407 yards and six touchdowns Saturday at U.S. Bank Stadium before giving way to backup quarterback Braeden Tersteeg to start the fourth quarter.

Senior receiver Gavin Vosika was Sagedahl’s primary target, catching 10 passes for 232 yards and four tourchdowns.

Browerville/Eagle Valley (10-2) scored the first time it had the ball. The Tigers took the opening kickoff and drove 64 yards in 17 plays, taking a 7-0 lead and 9:06 off the clock.

That lead was short-lived as BOLD (13-0) responded with a two-play, 60-yard drive, capped by a 49-yard Sagedahl-to-Vosika scoring pass.

BOLD, comprised of Bird Island, Olivia and Lake Lillian, reached the 2018 Prep Bowl and lost a heart-breaker to Mahnomen/Waubun.
