And the winner is...MN Football Hub defensive top performer revealed

Top performer winner

Jack Bungarden, Woodbury. The junior linebacker had a breakout showing in Woodbury’s 29-27 win at White Bear Lake, making 11 tackles and two sacks. Five of his tackles were recorded for a loss, helping the Royals win their fifth consecutive game.

Jake Cielinksi, St. Cloud Tech. In the Tigers’ 28-12 victory against Brainerd, the senior linebacker registered 14 tackles (seven solo) and a sack.

Nick Flaskamp, Minneapolis Southwest. The junior linebacker, who averages 14 tackles per game, led the Lakers’ defense in their regular-season finale with 15 tackles — seven solo, and five for a loss — in the Lakers' 34-7 loss to Fridley, which is ranked No. 4 in the Class 4A statewide Associated Press poll from Oct. 21.

Tristan Hoppe, Hutchinson. The junior led No. 1-4A Hutchinson's stingy defense, which allowed just one touchdown in the Tigers' 44-7 defeat of Willmar. Hoppe made 12 tackles — his second highest total of the season.

William Katchmark, Columbia Heights. Katchmark and Columbia Heights' defense held St. Paul Como Park to just one touchdown — and then stopped the ensuing two-point conversion attempt — as the junior helped guide the Hylanders to a 34-6 win with 14 tackles, including one for a loss.

Brandon Lampi, Buffalo. The senior completed the regular season with his fourth 14-tackle showing of the season. Lampi's latest outburst came in the Bison's 30-19 victory against Andover.

Grant Louwagie, Marshall. The junior propelled the Tigers’ shutdown defense in No. 8-4A Marshall's 42-0 triumph at Jordan. In the victory, Louwagie tallied 13 tackles, including two for a loss.

Pierce Oppong, Bloomington Jefferson. A 28-7 loss to St. Louis Park didn’t stop this senior from putting up his best numbers of the season — 19 tackles (12 solo), including six recorded for a loss; two of which were sacks.

Preston Palmer, Lakeville North. The senior had a season-high eight tackles, including three for a loss (two were sacks), in the No. 4-6A Panthers’ 49-14 defeat of Farmington. Palmer also had a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the win.

Davon Townley Jr., Minneapolis North. Townley and the No. 3-2A Polars finished the regular season strong, as the junior made nine tackles and 4.5 sacks in Minneapolis North's 52-0 rout of Richfield.
