And the winner is...MN Football Hub defensive top performer revealed

Athletes are considered for the weekly top performer poll only if their stats are entered on the MN Football Hub by 10 a.m. on Sundays. If coaches or members of their staffs need access to enter stats, please email mnhubs@sportngin.com.


Top performer winner

Thomas Halvorson, Becker. Halvorson and the Bulldogs, ranked No. 7 in the Class 4A statewide Associated Press poll from Oct. 9, silenced Willmar’s offense by holding the Cardinals to 57 passing yards and 69 rushing yards. The junior made 11 solo tackles (13 total) in the Bulldogs’ 12-0 win. 

Top performer candidates

Connor Bushbaum, South Ridge. Bushbaum led a Panther defense that held Silver Bay to just six points, as the junior made four tackles for a loss (including three sacks) and eight total tackles in South Ridge's 25-6 defeat of Silver Bay.

RJ Chakolis, Hopkins. The the Royals edged Coon Rapids 20-19 behind Chakolis, a junior linebacker, who recorded a season-high 15 solo tackles (17 total), including a sack and two more for a loss.

Ivan Hovland, Springfield. The senior linebacker and the No. 4-1A Tigers remain unblemished after defeating Adrian 20-7. Hovland made 16 total tackles, including two for a loss, as Springfield's defense held its opponent to eight or less points for the sixth time this season.

Keyshawn Johnson, Providence Academy. Johnson, a senior linebacker, helped the Lions snap a four-game losing streak, making 12 total tackles for the second consecutive game. He also forced a fumble in the Lions’ 45-20 win against Richfield.

Zach Juckel, Lakeville South. The sophomore linebacker led the No. 2-6A Cougars’ defense by making 10 total tackles, including one for a sack, as the Cougars allowed just one touchdown late in their 61-6 rout of No. 9-6A Farmington.

Jake Klancher, Crosby-Ironton. The junior continues to lead Crosby-Ironton in tackles, as he made 15 of his 82 tackles this season in the Rangers’ 26-22 win against No. 6-2A Moose Lake-Willow River.

Alex McKenna, Breck. In addition to leading Breck's offense in the Mustangs’ 19-0 defeat of Concordia Academy, the senior powered his defense with 20 tackles (17 solo), including two for a loss. McKenna also forced and recovered a fumble in the win.

Josh Schlichting, Forest Lake. The junior made a season-high 12 tackles (six solo), including three for a loss, in the Rangers’ 21-7 stumble to Spring Lake Park.

Tommy Stolpestad, SMB. A senior linebacker, Stolpestad had a season-high 13 total tackles, including three for a loss, in the No. 2-4A Wolfpack's 20-3 victory over Mound Westonka.
