Top performer candidates

The Bombers, ranked No. 10 in the Class 1A statewide Associated Press poll from Oct. 9, paved a 16-0 lead halfway through the first quarter on Bendickson's 84-yard TD run and two two-point conversions. Bendickson had 15 touches, averaging 14.6 yards per carry.

The senior quarterback threw for 165 passing yards and one TD, and added 88 rushing yards and two more touchdowns on the ground. Breitbach accounted for two touchdowns during a four-minute span in the second quarter — one passing and one rushing — and added his second rushing TD in the waning seconds of the third quarter.

Josh Buri, Stewartvillle. The junior running back led the No. 5-3A Tigers’ 61-0 rout of Lake City, producing 250 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Buri also had a 15-yard receiving TD. He first got the Tigers on the board in the first quarter with a 99-yard run. After his receiving touchdown later in that quarter, he finished his scoring with 45- and 19-yard TD runs in the second quarter. Buri averages 221 rushing yards per game this season.

Logan Freeburg, Lakeville North. Coming off their first loss of the season to their crosstown rival — a 34-19 blemish to No. 2-6A Lakeville South on Oct. 4 — the No. 5-6A Panthers were eager get back in the win column. Freeburg led the Lakeville North offense with 166 rushing yards on 30 carries — both season highs for the junior running back — in the Panthers' 23-7 defeat of White Bear Lake. He scored all three Panther TDs, including a 42-yard scamper to open the scoring less than four minutes into the game.

Andrew Gotziaman, Minneapolis Washburn. Gotziaman and the Millers took down St. Paul Central 41-0 — their second largest margin of victory this season — behind their quarterback, who threw for a season-high 239 yards on 14 completions. He tossed two touchdowns, and ran in a 2-yard TD in the third quarter.

Jackson Nibbelink, Winona. Nibbelink’s solid senior campaign continued in the No. 4-4A Winhawks’ 35-0 victory at Rochester Mayo, as the quarterback facilitated each of his team's five touchdowns. He threw for 140 yards and three touchdowns to a trio of receivers, and scored both of the Winona's rushing TDs. Nibbelink also had nine carries for 48 yards.
