Lakeville South came into Friday’s game against Farmington riding a four-game winning streak — and the Cougars, ranked No. 2 in the Class 6A Associated Press poll, stayed red hot while the No. 9-6A Tigers probably weren’t ready for a 61-point pummeling when they took the field.
Lakeville South (6-1, 4-1), a team coming off a win last week over crosstown rival and last year’s Class 6A state champion Lakeville North, pounded Farmington 61-6 in cold, flurrying conditions.
Lakeville South, ranked No. 2 in the Class 6A statewide Associated Press poll, ran through a snowstorm for eight rushing touchdowns on its way to a 61-6 home victory over No. 9-6A Farmington on Friday night.
Garrett Savard got the Cougars (6-1, 4-1) started with a 48-yard run for a touchdown in the opening four minutes to start the rushing onslaught. Riley Haglund and Johnny Shabaz also contributed, with each sprinting into the end zone for two Cougars touchdowns apiece. Haglund broke three tackles on a 42-yard run on his way to his second TD.
The Cougars’ defense held the Tigers to zero points through three quarters. Farmington (5-2, 3-2) couldn’t create threatening offensive plays down the stretch until late in the fourth quarter, when Alex Berreth threw a 64-yard touchdown pass to Isaac Ask, resulting in the Tigers’ only score.
Lakeville South added 23 more points in the second half, including a pair of rushing touchdowns from Camden Dean, and a safety by Hank English in the early stages of the fourth quarter.
