And the winner is...MN Football Hub defensive top performer revealed

Top performer winner

Micah Hamson, United South Central. While the No. 5-1A Rebels gave up just one touchdown for the second game in a row, Hamson had his fourth game this season while recording double-digit tackles. Hamson, who has 62 total tackles in the last three games, had 18 total tackles in the Rebels’ 26-6 defeat of Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton. Hamson leads the state with 90 tackles this season.

Top performer candidates

Mitch Callahan, New Prague. The senior had a season-best 16 solo tackles (19 total), including one for a loss, as the Trojans defeated Rochester Century, ranked No. 10 in the Class 5A statewide Associated Press poll from Oct. 2, 26-20.

Finn Diggins, Perham. The 6-foot-5 junior had an impressive night on both sides of the ball, as the Yellowjackets defeated East Grand Forks 60-44. Diggins not only scored three touchdowns but also led the defense with 12 total tackles (nine solo), two sacks, and a forced fumble. Three of his tackles were for a loss.

William Katchmark, Columbia Heights. The junior backed the Hylanders’ second straight win with a season-high 12 tackles, including one for a loss. Katchmark also recorded an interception in the 28-20 win at Spectrum.

Jake Klancher, Crosby-Ironton. Klancher, a junior, had his second consecutive 20-tackle game last week, as he registered 21 tackles in the Rangers’ 30-6 loss to Aitkin.

Nick Larson, South Ridge. Larson and the Panthers silenced Cherry’s offense, winning 28-0 to earn their fifth consecutive win. Larson made nine solo tackles (14 total) — four of which were for a loss.

Preston Nelson, Adrian. The junior led the charge for Adrian’s stingy defense, holding New Ulm Cathedral scoreless. Nelson made nine tackles, including two for a loss, and a sack. He also recorded two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in the 34-0 win.

Shane Noyes, Canby. Noyes and the rest of the defense made it easy on the Lancer offense, allowing their lone touchdown to hold up in a 6-0 victory over Dawson-Boyd. The junior made 12 total tackles, including three sacks, in the win.

Cody Sisell, Pine Island. The senior made a season-high 15 tackles — including two for a loss — and 1.5 sacks in the Panthers’ 28-7 throttling of Triton.

Anthony Ukofia, Wayzata. As the No. 2-6A Trojans blew out Lake Conference rival Minnetonka 38-3, the senior had a season-high 11 total tackles (nine solo) and his first interception of the season.
