Don’t say Woodbury doesn’t learn from its experiences.

The Royals got off to a tough start this season, dropping their first three games, including losses to Class 6A's top two programs in Lakeville North and Eden Prairie. But what they saw in those quality opponents early helped hone them so they were ready to take down the next big foe they faced.

Woodbury overcame its own mistakes and took advantage of miscues from Cretin-Derham Hall, ranked No. 4 in the Class 6A Associated Press statewide poll, to earn a 31-28 home win Friday on a late touchdown run by quarterback Charlie Wilson, followed by a blocked field goal as time expired.

After losing three straight to start the fall, the Royals (2-3, 2-1) are now on a two-game win streak.
