Browerville dominates the line of scrimmage to take second-straight win

The Browerville Tigers football team traveled to Barrett on Friday, Sept. 23, to take on the West Central Knights. The Tigers built off of their win last week and put in another dominating performance defeating the Knights 41-6.

The Tigers got the ball to open the game and took it 67 yards for a score on the first drive.

Their defense then caused a fumble on the first play from scrimmage and the offense scored three plays later.

After another defensive stop, the Tigers caused another three-and-out. The offense then scored on the first play of the second quarter.

The Knights produced a solid drive, and had some success passing, finishing 7-12 in the quarter.

The Tigers came back to score yet again to make the score 34-6. The Knights broke a few tackles and got down to the 10-yard line. A Trenton Wollenburg interception ended the drive at the five yard line as time ran out.

Browerville stopped the Knights’ opening drive, then Mitch Heid ran 46 yards for a touchdown.

After another stop, both teams started subbing in younger players.

The Tiger defense played well in the first half, allowing only two yards rushing.

“I was worried about the ability of WCA’s quarterback, so we played to contain the edge,” head coach Wayne Petermeier said. “This put a lot of pressure on our defensive backs because the quarterback had more time to throw.”

After making some adjustments at halftime, the Tigers decided to put more pressure on the quarterback. This helped as the Knights were only able to complete two passes for 19 yards in the second half.

The Tigers gave up 87 yards passing and 25 yards rushing on the game.

The offense had 70 yards passing, 62 yards going to Kyle Petermeier. Ben Dreher ran 12 times for 92 yards, Mitch Heid rushed 10 times for 83 yards, Trenton Wollenburg ran six times for 27 yards.

The Tigers will host Royalton on Friday, Sept. 30.
