The Tornadoes raced to a big second-half lead and never let up.

 • ANOKA 59, BLAINE 32: The Tornadoes threw an already topsy-turvy conference for another loop Friday, routing previously undefeated Blaine — ranked No. 5 in the Star Tribune metro top 10 — behind more than 500 yards of total offense. Anoka gained 397 yards on the ground, led by a pair of 100-yard performances by seniors Ryan Rand (10 carries, 144 yards, two TDs) and Josh Werness (14 carries, 113 yards, two TDs).

• CHAMPLIN PARK 28, CENTENNIAL 22: Champlin Park managed to defend its home turf Friday night, but the task wasn’t easy. Despite jumping out to a quick 14-0 lead over Centennial, the Rebels gave up 22 unanswered points. Tied in the 4th quarter, junior RB Michael Sales dismissed his sore shoulder and took the field for the first time on the night. With 48 seconds left on the clock, Sales ran out a 43-yard touchdown to seal Centennial’s fate and hand the Cougars their first loss after a 3-0 start.

• BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY 31, EASTVIEW 24: Bloomington Kennedy came into Friday night winless on the season, but running back Lexis Jones made sure the Eagles didn’t stay that way. Jones ran 31 times for 278 yards, including a pair of long touchdown runs in the third quarter, as Kennedy built a 31-10 lead and held on for the victory. Ryan Reger threw TD passes of 78 and 42 yards in the second half, but Eastview’s rally came up short. Kennedy’s Donte Allen, a senior linebacker, recovered a fumble and returned it 5 yards for a touchdown to give Kennedy a 14-10 lead in the second quarter.

• PRIOR LAKE 13, BURNSVILLE 10: Senior running back Jack Kaiser rushed for 109 yards, helping the Lakers hold off a late rally by the Blaze and grab a much-needed conference victory.

• HOLY ANGELS 35, CHANHASSEN 33: Holy Angels hung on for a nail-biting win when Chanhassen’s attempt at a 45-yard, game-winning field goal narrowly missed in the final seconds. Stars running back Anthony Baysah ran for 122 yards on 12 carries, and quarterback Sam Keif completed 7 of 11 passes for 187 yards and two scores. Keif ran for a touchdown as well to help Holy Angels improve to 4-0. Chanhassen’s Maverick Edmunds had 182 total yards and scored a touchdown rushing and on an interception return, helping the Storm get within one play of notching its first win of the season. Chanhassen (0-4) has lost its last three games by a total of seven points.

• RED WING 14, NORTHFIELD 7: The Wingers defeated Northfield for the first time since 2002, and they did it in dramatic fashion. Senior quarterback Joel Newman connected with senior wide receiver Jack Strusz on 4th-and-10 for a 24 yard touchdown with 4:10 remaining in the game to give Red Wing a seven-point lead. Northfield turned the ball over on downs with 3:11 remaining left. The Wingers fumbled on their own 23 with 1:23 remaining, but they held on again to preserve the victory.

• IRONDALE 20, ST. FRANCIS 13: Irondale cornerback Kevin Poster intercepted a pass at the St. Francis 40-yard line with 12 seconds to play to preserve the victory for the Knights and hand the Saints their first loss of the season. Irondale QB Justus Canfield passed for 180 yards and two touchdowns, both in the second half to Poster (for 26 and 33 yards) after St. Francis took a 13-7 halftime lead. Canfield rushed for 60 yards on 16 carries.

• WAYZATA 33, CARMEL (ILL.) CATHOLIC 27: The Trojans had a commanding 20-6 lead as the fourth quarter began, but Carmel Catholic wasn’t about to roll over. The Corsairs returned a kickoff 92 yards for a score and managed to make it a one-possession game, but Wayzata held off the charging Carmel squad with some late offense of its own. Erik Roti ran in a score from 55 yards, and quarterback Nick Martin found Ethan Zeidler for a 30-yard touchdown. The teams played in Iowa at the University of Dubuque, with both squads traveling to meet somewhat in the middle.

• MONTEVIDEO 56, ALBANY 49: Quarterback Brett Bergeson had a game for the ages. The Montevideo quarterback threw for 504 yards — the second-highest total in state history, according to Minnesota Football Coaches Association records — and seven touchdowns, leading a comeback victory over Albany, which is ranked No. 2 in Class 3A. Both teams came into the game 3-0.
