New hockey coach's son making a big impact on the field

Hockey’s gain also has been a big boost for football here.

Steve Haataja was hired last spring as the head coach of the tradition-rich Warroad High School boys hockey program. That season begins in November. In the meantime his son, Aaron, has stepped in as an impact player on the Warriors’ 1-1 football team.

Haataja has had back-to-back 100-yard rushing games to open the season. He’s added another dimension to an offense that already had proven playmakers in quarterback Ross Merriman and receivers Alex Sandahl and Tyler Hansen.
