Armstrong adds to Northwest Suburban intrigue with win over Maple Grove

• CENTENNIAL 37, OSSEO 35: Centennial’s Ben LaMere scored his fourth touchdown of the game with 1 minute, 5 seconds left in regulation, helping the Cougars beat Osseo on Thursday. LaMere finished with 103 all-purpose yards, and quarterback Evan Ostergren threw for 236 yards and two touchdowns.

• ARMSTRONG 18, MAPLE GROVE 16: Senior quarterback Earl Young was clutch when it mattered, going 9-for-18 for 121 yards passing and three TDs to lead Armstrong. The Falcons were only 2-7 a year ago, so an opening victory is a big shot in the arm. Maple Grove fell in the debut of new head coach Matt Lombardi.

• BENILDE-ST. MARGARET’S 48, COOPER 34: In a game filled with plenty of offense, it was a defensive touchdown that really stood out. Jack Naughtin returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown late in the third quarter, helping the Red Knights to a victory. Naughtin also had a 36-yard TD run.

• ROCKFORD 38, COLUMBIA HEIGHTS 6: What didn’t senior running back John Redepenning do for Rockford? He had 111 yards on 26 carries, scored two touchdowns and ran for a pair of two-point conversions. He also kicked two extra points.
