John Vucinovich figured he worked with nearly 12,000 students during 42 years as a Duluth high school teacher and coach.

 

Gary Doty, Duluth Central Class of 1966, said he’s thankful to be counted in that number. He used lessons learned on the football field and in the classroom on the way to becoming the city’s mayor from 1992-2004.

 

Vucinovich died Thursday in Duluth at age 98. Services will be Aug. 26 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 East Fourth Street, at 11:30 a.m.
