Princeton vs. Milaca

7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23

One of the top teams in Class 4A hits the road to take on one of Class 3A’s best in a battle of 3-0 squads separated by 14 miles.

Princeton, ranked No. 7 in the Sept. 14 Class 4A Associated Press poll, beat reigning Class 3A state champion Dassel-Cokato (2-1) 34-27 in Week 1. The Tigers followed with double-digit wins against Zimmerman (2-1) and Little Falls (0-3). Princeton held off a late rally by Milaca to win 38-36 last year. Cooper Drews threw two touchdowns for a team that went on to advance to the Section 6 championship. He’s back quarterbacking the Tigers in 2022, who have been adept at mixing run and pass.

Looking to avenge a close loss in the rematch is No. 7-3A Milaca. The Wolves are already a win away from matching last year’s win total. Milaca’s not getting it done with smoke and mirrors as it’s outscoring opponents 112-43 and won each game by multiple possessions. Jack Schoenborn is the man to watch for the Wolves. In wins over Litchfield (2-1) and Albany (1-2), the senior running back rushed for a combined 491 yards and five touchdowns.
