Lakeville North vs. Lakeville South

7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 9

It's been all Lakeville South in this series of late, but Lakeville North is capable of pulling off the upset if a few things fall its way.

The Cougars (1-0) have won three straight over the Panthers (1-0), all by double digits. Last year's battle was no blowout, however, as Lakeville South was held to a season-low point total in a 12-0 win. The two teams combined for fewer than 400 yards of offense, but the Cougars' 234 rush yards made the difference.

Lakeville North finished 4-6 last season, but had a bevy of close losses to top teams. Lakeville South, meanwhile, went undefeated on its way to the Class 6A title.

Both got off to good starts to 2022. Lakeville South had its starters out by the fourth quarter in a 69-14 win over Park of Cottage Grove. Senior running back and Iowa State commit Carson Hansen toted it 12 times for 113 yards and three touchdowns.

Lakeville North breezed by Eastview 42-13 on the road. Junior running back Sawyer Wilke tallied 159 yards on 23 carries with three touchdowns.

If the Panthers can summon enough offense and win the turnover battle, they could challenge the Cougars' 22-game win streak.
