Recap: Showing the type of mettle that has helped it to seven state championships over the past 10 years, Totino-Grace corrected a first-half full of mistakes and rallied past Osseo to advance to the Class 6A semifinals.

Quarterback Seth Sullwold hit running back Kai Barber with a 6-yard touchdown pass with 5:57 left in the game, giving the Eagles its first lead of the game, 34-27.

Osseo stormed back, pulling to within a point on Jaimen Hampton’s 12-yard scoring burst up the middle with 1:05 left. Eschewing a tie, the Orioles tried a two-point conversion to take the lead, but quarterback Matt Miedtke’s throw-back pass was intercepted by Totino-Grace’s Darius Rodgers.

Key of the game: Totino-Grace’s resilience as the game wore on. The Eagles’ uncharacteristic first-half mistakes, including three personal foul penalties, were nowhere to be found in the second half.

Quote: “This team has improved more in the past month that any team I’ve coached. This is a different team than it was a month ago.” — Totino-Grace coach Jeff Ferguson

One thing to know: Osseo had defeated Totino-Grace 28-14 in the regular-season finale. “It’s hard to beat the same team twice,” Barber said.
