Fairmont vs. Blue Earth Area

7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 20

No fewer than four players have thrown touchdown passes for No. 2-3A Fairmont (7-0). Zachary Jorgensen, a 6-foot-4 senior, was the passer of preference for the Cardinals last week, as he threw four touchdown passes in a 28-18 victory over Luverne.

Sophomore Brendan Schmidtke also has shined at quarterback this season for Fairmont. He fired four touchdown passes in a 46-0 win over Worthington on Oct. 8. He has eight touchdown passes this season while Jorgensen has 11.

No. 8-2A Blue Earth Area (6-1) rebounded from its only loss of the season (a 21-7 setback against Maple River on Oct. 8) by pounding Norwood Young America 61-20. The Buccaneers take the antithesis of a Fairmont’s quarterback-by-committee approach. Senior quarterback Adam Schavey throws and runs to a high degree of effectiveness. He had a six-touchdown game against Jackson County Central earlier in the season.
