Fergus Falls vs. Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton

7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 15

Back before high school mergers were both fashionable and fiscally sensible, Dilworth reached two state tournaments (in 1988 and 1989) as a solo program. Glyndon-Felton teamed up for a three-year run of greatness starting in 1983, culminating with a 1985 Class C championship. The super-merger of Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (located in the Fargo-Moorhead area) has reached six state tournaments since 1993.

Another prolonged playoff appearance for the No. 4-3A Rebels (6-0) could be imminent, as they have had just one close game (a 20-18 victory over Pequot Lakes on Sept 10) in an otherwise dominant season. Boosting the Rebels’ chances is the presence of McKale Pierson, who rushed for 222 yards and two touchdowns and had a touchdown reception in last week’s 21-0 triumph over Hawley.

The toss-and-catch combo of senior quarterback Carter Thielke (827 passing yards) and senior wide receiver Cole Zierden (431 receiving yards) has fueled the offense for unranked Fergus Falls (5-1), a four-time state tournament qualifier.
