St. Michael-Albertville vs. Maple Grove

7 p.m., Day, Date

The Metro Gold District is aptly named, given that many of the state’s most precious, high-value programs (in terms of annual success) reside there. With Lakeville South, Eden Prairie and Rosemount all going unbeaten last season and all clustered in the Metro Gold’s South Division, that’s where the balance of power would figure to be this season, too.

Well, winter is coming, it would be unwise to dismiss the happenings in the North, where no less than five teams are ranked among the state’s top 10 in Class 6A. Two of those teams are No. 6-6A Maple Grove (5-1) and No. 10-6A St. Michael-Albertville (4-2), which have been hanging around in the top 10 all season.

Maple Grove, which suffered it’s lone loss of the season, 21-7 to Centennial on Sept. 24, is coming off an impressive 21-3 victory over No. 5-6A Wayzata last week. Senior Derrick Jameson has rushed for 673 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Crimson.

Senior Max Keefer ran for 182 yard and three touchdowns last week in St. Michael-Albertville’s 44-8 win over Champlin Park.
