Kasson-Mantorville vs. Stewartville

7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 8

Midsize Rochester-area teams with contrasting styles and irrepressible individual stars meet in what figures to a be a game oozing with drama.

Kasson-Mantorville’s mesmerizing triple-option offense runs through the capable hands of tough-as-nails quarterback Matt Donovan, son of coach Terry Donovan. Matt, a senior, has rushed for 651 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s also tacked on 276 passing yard for the No. 7-4A KoMets (4-1).

First-year Stewartville quarterback Eli Klavetter, a 6-foot-3 senior, was stuck behind multi-sport standout Will Tschetter for three years on the Tigers’ depth chart. With Tschetter off to Michigan on a basketball scholarship, Stewartville’s imaginative spread offense hasn’t skipped a beat with Klavetter at the helm. He’s thrown for more than 1,000 yards and has 16 touchdown passes, second most in the state.
