Wayzata vs. Maple Grove

7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 8

Wayzata had been averaging more than 33 points per game before last Friday’s befuddling 6-0 loss to unranked Centennial. Maple Grove has an eerily similar theme to its season; the Crimson were averaging more than 46 points per game, but they managed just seven in a Week 4 loss to, you guessed it, unranked Centennial (3-2).

Centennial losses aside, both of these teams appear built for extended playoff runs. No. 2-6A Wayzata (4-1) gets plenty of mileage out of senior running back Julian Diedrich (619 rushing yards; University of St. Thomas commit) but can throw effectively too with 6-foot-4 senior quarterback Ryan Harvey (nine touchdown passes).

Maple Grove is effective moving the ball on the ground and through the air, too. The No. 10-6A Crimson (4-1) senior running back Derrick Jameson has 508 rushing yards and nine touchdowns and junior quarterback Jacob Kilzer has thrown for 647 yards and five touchdowns.
