Ever since the first pigskin arrived in Minnesota, the southern portion of the state has produced terrific teams and standout players. The area remains as fertile as ever, as evidenced by the dozens of teams south of the Twin Cities populating the state rankings in various classes.
That is made clear as No. 9-3A Waseca (3-0) and No. 7-3A Fairmont (3-0) are two of those teams representing for the southern region.
Waseca is coming off a 22-8 victory over Tri-City United in which Oliver O’Brien threw for 171 yards and a touchdown. Fairmont coach Mat Mahoney reached the 100-career victory mark in last week's 41-18 triumph over Jordan.
