Mahtomedi vs.

St. Thomas Academy

7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 23

A few more games like the one he had last week, and Mahtomedi senior quarterback Jonathon DeVore might just be known more simply as Johnny Football. All DeVore did against Hill-Murray on Oct. 16 was pass for 348 yards and five touchdowns — four of them in the first half — in a 41-14 blowout.

Mahtomedi (2-0, 1-0) reached the Class 5A state tournament last season but was ousted in the quarterfinals, losing 35-7 to Chaska. St. Thomas Academy fared better in the Class 5A state tourney, reaching the title game before losing 10-7 to Chaska.

Senior Danny McFadden, the fifth and final McFadden brother to go through No. 2-5A St. Thomas Academy (the last four of them started at running back), has gained 332 yards on 29 carries and scored six touchdowns (5 rushing, 1 receiving). The Cadets (2-0, 1-0) also feature one of the metro’s top defensive linemen in Garrison Solliday, a 6-1, 233-pound senior.
