Hancock vs.

Brandon-Evansville

7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16

The other matchup featuring undefeated teams is in the 9-Man West South Subdistrict, where these teams, which share only a whisper of state tournament history with a combined two appearances, try to close out their regular seasons with perfect records.

Hancock’s unbeaten status was, surprisingly, in jeopardy last week in a 6-0 triumph over one-win Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley. The No. 5 Owls (7-0, 7-0) have the ultimate utility player in Gideon Joos, who typically lines up at fullback and linebacker, but has played nearly every position on offense (including right guard and wide receiver) and defense this season.

Brandon-Evansville had no difficulty last week, throttling Wheaton-Herman-Norcross 48-0. The No. 4 Chargers (7-0, 7-0) have won all of their games by 30 or more points and are led on offense by quarterback Keagan Schiele (more than 700 passing yards) and running back Cade Carlson (more than 500 rushing yards).
