Cannon Falls vs. Stewartville

7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16

We found just two unbeaten versus unbeaten matchups in the final week of the regular season, and this tilt for the Southeast Red Subdistrict championship between southern Minnesota teams ranked in the top eight of Class 3A coaches' poll shapes up as a thriller.

Stewartville (6-0, 3-0) does much of its damage on the ground with Josh Buri, who ranks third in the state with 1,329 rushing yards. He’s run for 18 touchdowns and caught three more TDs. The No. 5-3A Tigers' quarterback, Will Tschetter, is more than capable, too, as he’s thrown for 1,057 yards and 13 TDs.

Cannon Falls used a 7-yard touchdown run from Trenton Matthies with 6:43 remaining to slip past Rochester Lourdes 12-7 last week. Jack Dommeyer scored the other Bombers’ touchdown on a 4-yard run. No. 8-3A Cannon Falls (6-0, 3-0) won just two games in the regular season a year ago, then reeled off three straight Class 3A, Section 4 playoff wins to reach the state tournament, where the Bombers lost 27-21 to Fairmont in the quarterfinals.
