Minneapolis Southwest vs. Fridley

6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16

Just how good is TK Marshall? We’re about to find out. The Minneapolis Southwest running back’s monster performance last week (310 yards and five TDs on just 14 carries before being pulled after three quarters) in a 37-7 win over St. Paul Johnson vaulted him all the way to No. 2 in the state among teams reporting stats to the Hub with 1,390 rushing yards.

Now Marshall, the 190-pound senior committed to North Dakota State, faces his toughest challenge this season in unbeaten Fridley (7-0, 4-0). The No. 6-4A Tigers, led by Michael Ude’s 46 tackles and Josh Franklin’s 10 tackles for loss, have shut out three opponents and allowed no more than seven points in any of their other four games.

Southwest (6-1, 3-0) recorded its only loss to perennial small-school state title contender No. 3-2A Minneapolis North 19-7 on Sept. 6. The Lakers had their three-game shutout streak stopped last week in the victory over the Governors and have allowed just 47 points all season.
