Wayzata vs. Eden Prairie

7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 27

And here it is, the biggest game in a season that has been a Murderers' Row of them for Wayzata, which started the season with low (OK, zero) outside expectations. The Trojans have won them all to date, but then Eden Prairie has, too.

Christian Vasser provided No. 3-6A Wayzata (4-0, 3-0) with two touchdown runs and 227 rushing yards in last week’s 28-18 victory over No. 4-6A St. Michael-Albertville. The 205-pound Vasser has gained 670 yards and is averaging 5.9 yards per carry.

Eden Prairie is having a typical Eden Prairie season, which is to say the No. 2-6A Eagles (4-0, 2-0) have gone mostly unchallenged this season, with last week’s 14-6 squeaker over Shakopee being a notable exception. A 74-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Ben Sather clinched the victory.

This Metro West Subdistrict game has something of a throwback feel to it, harkening back to a not-so-distant past when Wayzata and Eden Prairie were taking turns as the state’s big-school bullies.
