Chatfield vs. Caledonia

6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20

After three lopsided victories to open this year's campaign, Caledonia owns what is believed to be the nation’s — yes, the nation’s — longest winning streak: 57 straight games.

Caledonia (3-0, 2-0) got 88 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Dalen Lamke, and 189 combined passing and rushing yards from quarterback Noah King in last week's 43-0 throttling of Zumbrota-Mazeppa.

Winner of four straight Class 2A championships, and nine titles in the last 12 years, the No. 1-2A Warriors last lost in a section tournament way back in 2013 to — drum roll please — Chatfield.

The Gophers (2-1, 1-1) are led by quarterback Reid Johnson and running back Sam Backer.

Despite last week’s 16-14 loss to Triton, Chatfield, along with longtime southern Minnesota power Rochester Lourdes, figures to be one of the rare teams to have a legitimate shot of busting Caledonia’s streak.
