SMB vs. Columbia Heights

7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 30

The multi-school mash-up that is St. Paul Academy/Minnehaha Academy/Blake won the Class 4A title in dominating fashion last season, blasting Willmar 44-18 in the title game.

It seems there is more than enough talent for an encore performance, given that most every online college recruiting site (247Sports, Rivals, Scout and the like) all list a handful of Wolfpack players (linebacker Kaden Johnson, quarterback Jalen Suggs, wide receiver Terry Lockett and safety/running back/receiver Trevon Howard) among the state’s top recruits.

SMB opens its trek against a Columbia Heights team that finished a middling 5-3 last season in a Twin City Red Subdistrict dominated by Minneapolis North. Quarterback Aaron Severson completed 50 passes for 946 yards and 14 TDs last year. Severson also spent some time kicking extra points and playing defense for the Hylanders.
