Houston vs. Spring Grove

7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5

A tie atop of the standings in 9-Man, Section 1 and District 9 South East subdistrict will get sorted out when No. 5-ranked Houston takes on reigning state champion and top-ranked Spring Grove.

The teams are undefeated, and the winner on Friday will take control of the league title race while also gaining an edge in postseason seeding.

The Hurricanes haven't had much success against the Lions in the last decade, losing nine consecutive games since scoring a victory over Spring Grove in the 2009 section semifinals.

Houston may possess the offensive strengths to blow away their rival.

Senior running back Jaytin Millen leads the Hurricanes (5-0, 4-0) with 624 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, while senior quarterback James Hongerholt has 13 TDs (9 rushing, 4 passing) this season.

Spring Grove has maintained its dominance despite graduating many of the players from last season's state title team. The Lions (5-0, 4-0) average 53.4 points per game this season, largely due to dual-threat quarterback Alex Folz, a senior whose 1,080 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns leads the state. Folz has also thrown for 858 yards and 13 TDs.
