Pequot Lakes vs. Perham

7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 14

This contest could come down to one matchup: Perham quarterback Jenson Beachy against the Pequot Lakes' secondary. The senior has been impressive (7 touchdowns, 677 yards through the air) in the first two games for the Yellowjackets (1-1, 0-1), who have posted 80 total points this season.

Beachy helped No. 6-3A Perham keep pace with No. 4-4A Detroit Lakes in last week's Midwest Red subdistrict opener, completing 36 of 59 passes for 456 yards and three touchdowns, but the Yellowjackets came up just short in a 36-30 loss. This Friday’s matchup against Pequot Lakes (2-0, 1-0) is an opportunity for Perham to rebound.

It may not be easy, however.

Pequot Lakes is riding high after the dangerous defense of the No. 5-3A Patriots picked off six passes in a 27-14 win over Fergus Falls last Friday. The team needed a boost after its offense was slowed in the win — recording just 158 total yards — but sophomore all-purpose back Bode Magnuson's supporting role produced touchdowns on a kickoff return, an interception return and a 71-yard reception.
