Minneota vs. Dawson-Boyd

7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 7

As Southwest West and Class 1A, Section 5 foes, Minneota (1-0) and Dawson-Boyd (1-0) are quite familiar with each other, having played each other 16 times in 11 years.

The Vikings have won the Class 1A state title with an undefeated record in three of the last four seasons, which includes a seven-game winning streak against the Blackjacks.

Hoping to end a losing streak against Minneota dating back to the 2012 section title game, Dawson-Boyd will try to ride the offensive momentum from a 58-18 thrashing of Adrian last Thursday. Senior quarterback Jake Lee threw for 145 yards and four touchdowns while senior running back Bentley Boike rushed for 180 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win.

Minneota didn't have its explosive offensive attack that averaged 50.9 points per game in 2017 in a 23-8 win over Sleepy Eye, but sophomore quarterback Jacob Hennen threw for 156 yards and a touchdown in his debut as a starter. Junior running back Cole Sanow compiled 105 yards and scored twice.
