Trailing 6-0 after the first quarter, Pipestone completed three passes for touchdowns in the second quarter against Moose Lake-Willow River to build a 20-6 halftime lead. The Arrows (12-1) went on to advance to the program’s second Prep Bowl appearance in three years with a 28-6 victory at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Pipestone senior wide receiver Tyl Woelber figured in those scores, which came in a span of five offensive plays. He caught scoring passes in stride from quarterback Cody Thompson that resulted in touchdowns of 28 and 71 yards, and threw a touchdown of his own, on a 64-yard trick play, to running back Garrett Ploeger.

Woelber also recovered a fumble to set up Pipestone’s third-quarter touchdown and caught a two-point conversion pass. For good measure, he handled the Arrows’ kicking and punting duties.

“I do whatever they need me to do to help the team out,’’ Woelber said. “Cody threw some great balls and I just had to go catch them. I get the glory, but I couldn’t do it without the team.”

Running back Trent Juhl gave the Rebels an early lead with a 3-yard touchdown in the first quarter. The Pipestone defense stepped up after that, forcing the Rebels (7-6) into four turnovers on downs, two punts and a fumble on their final seven possessions. Linebacker Matt Enger led the unit with 15½ tackles.

The Arrows will play two-time defending champion Caledonia next Friday in the Prep Bowl. The Warriors (12-0) defeated Pipestone 40-0 in 2015 at TCF Bank Stadium.

“This year we want to score and give them some competition,’’ Woelber said. ‘‘We’re not going to go down without a fight.”

First report

Pipestone turned to the deep ball to get its offense going in the Class 2A state semifinals on Friday.

Trailing 6-0 after the first quarter, the Arrows completed three passes for touchdowns -- two on plays topping 50 yards -- in the second quarter against Moose Lake-Willow River to build a 20-6 halftime lead. They went on to advance to the program’s second Prep Bowl appearance in three years with a 28-6 victory at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Pipestone senior wide receiver Tyl Woelber had a hand in all three second-quarter touchdowns, which came in a span of five offensive plays. He caught scoring passes in stride from quarterback Cody Thompson that resulted in touchdowns of 28 and 71 yards, and threw a touchdown of his own, on a 64-yard trick play, to running back Garrett Ploeger.

Woelber even chipped in defensively, recovering a third-quarter fumble that set up Thompson’s 1-yard touchdown sneak. Woelber, of course, converted the ensuing 2-point conversion attempt with a leaping, one-handed catch to put the Arrows in front 28-6.

Moose Lake-Willow River took advantage of a Pipestone turnover to take its only lead late in the first quarter. After Anakin Oswald’s fumble recovery, the Rebels ran the ball nine consecutive times to set up Trent Juhl’s 3-yard touchdown run. Juhl finished with 125 rushing yards for the Rebels, who finished 7-6.

The sixth-ranked Arrows take a 12-1 record into the Prep Bowl showdown with two-time defending champion Caledonia next Friday. The Warriors (12-0) captured their seventh state title when they defeated Pipestone 40-0 in 2015 at TCF Bank Stadium.
