Sixth-ranked Chaska drove 82 yards in just over a minute to stun Apple Valley’s homecoming crowd with a 20-17 victory in a battle of Class 5A unbeatens Friday at Apple Valley Stadium.

Senior quarterback Connor Souba converted a pass on 4th and 10 with 57 seconds to go, and then found Nolan Hansen down the sideline for a 36-yard gain, moving the ball to the three. Kobe Lillo then drove across the goal line for the go-ahead score with 46.7 seconds to go.

Apple Valley (4-1) had taken the lead late in the fourth quarter on a seven-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Tyler Cardella to Luke Martens.

Chaska (5-0) started the scoring late in the first quarter. After thwarting a fake punt attempt by Apple Valley, the Hawks needed just four plays to go 27 yards and set up quarterback Connor Souba’s nine-yard touchdown pass to Justin Bach.

The Eagles responded in the second quarter with two scoring drives. Tailback Kellan McKeag gave the home team the lead with a two-yard touchdown plunge and another successful run up the middle on the ensuing two-point conversion. Bilhal Kone later booted a 21-yard field goal as time expired to extend the Apple Valley lead to 11-7 at the break. McKeag and Patrick Kelehan combined for 311 yards on the ground.

The Hawks regained the lead early in the fourth when Lillo capped off a 99-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown run.
