Brandon-Evansville vs. Bertha-Hewitt
7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 22

Bertha-Hewitt is well on its way to finishing with an above .500 record after reeling off three consecutive wins to open the season.

The Bears' streak will be put to a test this week with a home game against South district rival Brandon/Evansville, a matchup that has not been seen since the beginning of district play in 2015.

What makes Bertha-Hewitt's start more impressive is it has notched victories over some of the best 9-Man programs of the past decade — Wheaton-Herman/Norcross, Underwood, Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley, a group which owns a combined 11 state tournament trips in the last decade.

That trio has a combined record of 2-7 after this season's first three weeks, yet posting a clean record against the group is a confidence boost for a Bears team (3-0, 3-0) that has experienced just three winning seasons since its last state tournament trip in 2005.

Look for the Bears' offense to continue to feature senior running back Holt Truax, who amassed 293 yards in the first two weeks of the season.

The Chargers (2-1, 2-1) have bounced back from a Week 1 loss -- 36-26 to undefeated Verndale -- by reeling off blowout wins over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy (50-0 in Week 2) and Wheaton-Herman/Norcross (47-6 last week). Senior running back Jake Hintermeister has carried the load with 432 yards and seven touchdowns.
