Mankato West vs. Winona
7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 22

Winona could be looking for payback Friday when it hosts Mankato West, which owns a dominant winning streak in this rivalry.

Despite finishing as Class 4A runners-up last season, the Winhawks also trail the Scarlets in state tournament appearances. Winona was the Class 2A runner-up in 1987 -- its only other trip to state; the Scarlets have reached the state tournament in eight of the last nine seasons, bringing home a Class 5A title in 2014 and a Class 4A title in 2008.

Both teams enter the game boasting balanced offenses.

Mankato West quarterback Jack Foster has thrown for 471 yards and six touchdowns while adding four TDs on the ground, and the sophomore is complemented by senior running back Dustin Mueller (336 rushing yards, 3 TDs).

Winona senior quarterback Riley Bosteter has 519 passing yards and tossed four touchdowns while also adding three rushing TDs to a ground game that is paced by senior running back Robert Warren (246 rushing yards, 6 TDs).
