Dawson-Boyd at Minneota
7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 8

These longtime Class 1A rivals meet for the 14th time in 10 years this week. Minneota has won four in a row and nine of its past 13 games against Dawson-Boyd, including the 2014 state championship. Each team competes in the Southwest West subdistrict and in Class 1A, Section 5 this season.

Minneota won Class 1A titles in 2009, 2014 and 2015 and finished as runner-up in Class 2A in 2013.

If last week was any indication, each program appears to have the firepower to compete for a state appearance this fall. Vikings (1-0) senior quarterback Alex Pohlen threw for 211 yards and three touchdowns in a 58-7 win over Sleepy Eye. Junior wide receiver Thomas Hennen caught six passes for 90 yards and three touchdowns.

The Blackjacks (1-0) defeated Adrian 46-14 in its opener. Senior quarterback Alex Swenson (134 passing yards, three TDs) and junior running back Bentley Boike (157 rushing yards, two TDs) were key in the win.
