Joseph Heimbold

On maybe one occasion, Holy Angels coach Jim Gunderson estimates, quarterback Joseph Heimbold made the incorrect read Friday while running his team’s option offense during a season-opening 47-6 victory over Hill-Murray.

“Everything was just clicking,” Heimbold said. “Everybody was doing their job, doing well and giving good effort. Everyone put in their part, and that’s what happened. Everyone just did their job and played hard.”

Heimbold completed seven of 11 passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 129 yards and two more touchdowns. In total, the Stars rushed for 191 yards, including 161 in the opening half, when they raced to a 40-6 lead against the visiting Pioneers.

Keontay Shorter was on the receiving end of one of Heimbold’s touchdowns, a 25-yard play in the first quarter, and returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.

Hill-Murray scored its only points when quarterback Jack Still connected with Eric Cote for a 29-yard second-quarter touchdown. The pair hooked up five times for 69 yards, all in the first half, while Hill-Murray was limited to 119 yards.

“It’s all about effort and attitude on defense, and I think the boys gave effort,” Gunderson said. “We’re all about pursuit. That’s the one thing I want those guys to be known for is their effort and pursuit and everybody getting to the football.”

First report

Joseph Heimbold and the Holy Angels offense didn't find much resistance on Friday in Richfield, where the Stars cruised to a 47-6 victory against Hill-Murray.

Heimbold, a senior quarterback, completed seven of 11 passes for 97 yards two touchdowns, while also rushing for 129 yards and two scores to spearhead the Stars' offense.

That was more than enough for a defense that limited Hill-Murray to five first downs.

The Pioneers did find offensive success through the connection of quarterback Jack Still and wide receiver Eric Cote, who hooked up five times for 69 yards and the lone touchdown.

Check back later for more on the game.
