McMenomy

Sean McMenomy announced he will step down after seven seasons as head football coach at DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis.

"This allows me to explore opportunities that are a better fit for my family," McMenomy said. "I didn't want rumors affecting the kids at DeLaSalle."

McMenomy said he is not interesting in pursuing the Osseo head coaching vacancy. The Orioles are defending Class 6A Prep Bowl champions.

In seven seasons, McMenomy's teams went 62-18, made five state tournament trips and took second in Class 4A at the 2014 Prep Bowl. More than a dozen Islanders' players signed with Division I college programs during McMenomy's tenure.

"Sean's done a great job of continuing DeLaSalle's tradition of success," school activities director Adam Pribyl said. "No doubt we're going to miss his passion for the game and his passion for student-athletes. But I'd say going forward we're not concerned. I would imagine we will be flooded with applications as the word gets out."

McMenomy plans to continue coaching.

"That will happen," he said. "I'll be blowing the whistle in the fall."

The Islanders finished 3-7 last fall, a mark McMenomy attributed to youth and varsity inexperience.

"We were mostly 10th graders on both sides of the ball," he said. "They will return everyone the next few years and they should be ridiculous."
