Paynesville at BOLD
7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 22

Paynesville and BOLD meet in Week 1 for the second year in a row.

Paynesville was the fifth-highest scoring team in Minnesota last season, finishing with 414 points in 10 games. And offense was a factor in helping the Bulldogs to an 8-0 regular-season record, including a 32-13 win over the Warriors. However, BOLD avenged that loss by knocking Paynesville out of the playoffs with a 34-8 win in the Class 2A, Section 5 championship.

Following that season-opening loss, the Warriors went on a 12-game winning streak, which ended in the Class 2A title game with a 20-18 double-overtime loss to Holdingford.

Paynesville may be searching for a new identity this season, as the Bulldogs look to replace record-setting quarterback Matt Quade and 16 other offensive and defensive players. Quade, who holds school records for most passing yards (323) and touchdowns (seven) in one game, threw for 2,109 yards last season - second most in the state.
