Moose Lake-Willow River owns a Class 2A program overflowing with recent success. The program has made a state tournament appearance every season since 2006 and finished as runner up in '09, '11 and '12.

The Class 4A Hawks, on the other hand, have posted winning seasons every season since 2009 but have struggled to push past the section tournament, despite being on the brink nearly every year.

The teams met in last season's opener, with the Rebels narrowly edging the Hawks 24-20.
