39th Annual x 2012 All-Star Game

All-Star History

The Minnesota High School All-Star Football Game has been an annual event since 1974, and dates back to 1945.

All-Star games were played in 1945, 1946 and 1952 through 1960 before the current annual series began at Memorial Stadium in 1974.

The game has been played at eight different locations during its history, with the former Parade Stadium in Minneapolis being the most frequent site – 19 games.

Starting in 2011, the All-Star Game added its ninth location: TCF Bank Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus.

Originally played in a North versus South format, the game switched to the Metro versus Outstate format in 1980.

The Metro versus Outstate format was played for 31 years, ending in 2010.

The North versus South format returned in 2011.

Through the years, More than 3,800 players and 400 coaches have participated in this event.

Seventy-two players from the series have gone on to play or coach in the National Football League. Five have played in the NFL Pro Bowl. And eight of those players have played or coached in the Super Bowl.
