Players are considered for the Top Performer poll only if their stats are entered on the MN Basketball Hub by 10 a.m. on Sundays. If any coaches or members of their coaching staff would like to be set up to enter stats, please email mnhubs@sportngin.com.

Fans' choice for Top Performer

Tyler Wahl, Lakeville North: Wahl scored 20 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and finished with seven assists in a 73-67 victory for the Panthers, ranked No. 3 in Class 4A by Minnesota Basketball News, against No. 5-4A Apple Valley on Jan. 9. The win ended a five-year losing streak to the Eagles and kept Lakeville North undefeated in South Suburban Conference play.

Top Performer candidates

Baden Noennig, Mayer Lutheran: Noennig finished with 25 points, including hitting the game winner, to lead No. 6-1A Mayer Lutheran to a 54-52 win over No. 4-1A Cass Lake-Bena. The Crusaders have won back-to-back games and are seeking their first trip to the state tournament since 2000.

Matthew Hurt, Rochester John Marshall: It’s hard to keep Hurt off the list for Top Performer honors with the season he’s having. Hurt had three games last week with 30 or more points against some of the state's best teams, including No. 10-3A Northfield and No. 2-3A Austin. Hurt had 33 points and 13 rebounds in a 69-59 win against Mankato West to start the week. He followed that outing by finishing with 32 points and 12 rebounds in a 71-67 victory over Northfield. He wrapped up the week with 31 points and 14 rebounds against the Packers in an 80-64 loss.

Michael Jones, Woodbury: Jones put up his fifth 30-plus point game of the season against one his school’s biggest rivals in East Ridge on  Jan. 10. He posted 33 points to lead the Royals (9-4, 5-0) to a 69-57 victory that allowed them to stay atop the Suburban East Conference standings.

Ean Thomsen, Nicollet: Thomsen has played brilliantly for Nicollet (9-5, 5-0) this season, and he shined again on Jan. 8, finishing with 32 points against Immanuel Lutheran in a 79-64 victory. Thomsen went 12-for-21 from the field and knocked down 6 of 7 free throws.

Cole Nicholson, Chaska: Nicholson hadn’t scored more than 26 points in a game prior to last week, and then he did it in back-to-back games. Nicholson scored 32 to help No. 9-4A Chaska (9-3) win a 84-83 nail-biter against No. 9-3A Delano. He had a 39-point performance against Orono in an 85-81 triple-overtime loss two nights later.

Noah Kannegiesser, Hancock: Kannegiesser surpassed 2,000 career points after scoring 34 against Hillcrest Lutheran on Jan. 8. He also had 30 points for the Owls (9-1, 4-0) against Wheaton-Herman-Norcross in an 82-44 triumph on Jan. 11.

David Roddy, Breck: Roddy had one of his best games against one of the toughest teams in the state on Jan. 11, scoring 33 points against No. 1-2A Minnehaha Academy in a 57-49 loss. Roddy scored 25 points earlier in the week against St. Paul Academy in a 69-43 win.

Matt Todd, Monticello: Todd does a little bit of everything for the Magic (10-2, 3-0). He had 33 points in a 71-55 victory over Big Lake on Jan. 12. Todd made 14 of 26 attempts from the field, grabbed six rebounds and dished out seven assists. He had 24 points in an 81-52 victory over St. Francis on Jan. 9.

Tre Jones, Apple Valley: Jones scored 22 points in a 73-67 loss to Lakeville North and had a 30-point game in an 89-81 victory at Shakopee. He went 11-for-17 from the field and 9-for-10 at the free-throw line against the Sabers.
