Defensive Player of the Week revealed

Mason Staggemeyer, Caledonia: The senior linebacker and the Warriors defense limited Zumbrota-Mazeppa to just six points in a 42-6 victory. Staggemeyer posted 12 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one interception in the game.

Player of the Week candidates

Onte Burns, Robbinsdale Cooper: The senior linebacker helped keep Spring Lake Park off the scoreboard until the fourth quarter, making 14 tackles in a 44-7 victory.

Steve Hajas, Delano: After giving up a touchdown to Glencoe-Silver Lake in the first three minutes of Friday's game, the Delano defense allowed only one field goal the rest of the way in a 21-9 victory. Hajas was a key factor, as the senior finished the contest with 14 tackles.

Kaden Johnson, SMB: With his team trailing Fridley 17-14 entering the fourth quarter, the sophomore outside linebacker powered a Wolfpack defense that shut out the Tigers while the offense scored 21 points for a 35-17 win. Johnson posted with 11 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble on the night.

Jake Maus, Chanhassen: The senior linebacker registered 15 tackles and forced a fumble, helping hold Chaska’s offense to just two touchdowns in a 14-0 loss.

Alex McKenna, Breck: The sophomore forced a fumble and amassed 11 tackles to aid the Mustangs in keeping Concordia Academy scoreless until the fourth quarter of a 35-8 win.

Teagan Peschges, Murray County Central: In a 27-22 win over Sleepy Eye, the junior linebacker totaled a team-high 18 tackles.

Logan Smith, WinonaThe senior defensive back made 12 tackles and had an interception in a 41-14 win over New Prague.

Logan Wentworth, Fergus Falls: In a 27-17 win over Detroit Lakes, the senior linebacker forced a fumble and made 14 tackles.

Michael Wozniak, Robbinsdale Armstrong: The senior linebacker led the defense with 14 tackles and one sack in a 31-6 win over Hopkins.
