Winning seasons have been elusive for Edina this decade. The Hornets' only one was in 2012 when they went 9-2.
They may be on track to add another this year.
Edina is ranked No. 6 in The Associated Press Class 6A poll going into its Metro West subdistrict opener this week versus No. 10-6A Wayzata. The Hornets are 2-0 after defeating Lakeville South and Rosemount and will try to keep pace in a subdistrict featuring four undefeated teams (Eden Prairie, Minnetonka and Maple Grove).
The Trojans (1-1, 0-1) are looking to bounce back from a 21-6 loss to Minnetonka last week. Avoiding another setback will be key for a Wayzata team trying to rebound from a two-win season a year ago.
This matchup of ranked Class 6A teams makes for an important Top Game of the Week.
