Offensive Player of the Week revelead

DeAndre Hill, Big Lake. The sophomore tailback ran in Big Lake’s first three touchdowns, including one on a 66-yard scamper, in a 30-5 win over Duluth East. Hill, who also made two catches for 24 yards, totaled 147 rushing yards on 14 attempts, averaging 10.5 yards per carry.

Player of the Week candidates

Nick Altermatt, Wabasso. The senior quarterback went 7-for-11 passing for 121 yards while also rushing for 107 yards and two touchdowns, including the game winner late in the fourth quarter in a 25-24 win over Lac Qui Parle Valley.

Matt Cavanagh, Edina. The junior running back was handed the ball early and often, as he scored Edina’s first touchdown early in the first quarter and added two more TDs in the second of a 34-9 win over Lakeville South. Cavanagh totaled 202 rushing yards in 41 attempts on the night.

Deshawn Cockrell, Wayzata. In a 28-27 win over Rosemount, the senior running back averaged 9.6 yards per carry, totaling 154 rushing yards in 16 attempts. Cockrell’s fourth-quarter touchdown proved to be the game-winner.

Michael Empting, Alexandria. In a 34-28 win over Andover, the senior quarterback threw two touchdowns, finishing 18-for-24 passing with 328 yards.

Carter Kopet, Cleveland/Immanuel Lutheran. Cleveland's season-opening 52-51 overtime loss to Spring Grove wasn't all bad, as Kopet impressed with his performance. The senior quarterback threw five TDs and went 27-for-52 passing for 328 yards, helping the Clippers keep the score close. Kopet also rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown.

Connor Melton, Blaine. The senior quarterback threw for an impressive 400 yards, the most of any player in the state in the first week of the season, to lead Blaine to a 53-28 victory at Stillwater. Melton completed 16 of 24 passes and threw five touchdowns. He also had one rushing TD.

Adam Nelson, Elk River. Nelson started the scoring for Elk River with an 80-yard run in the first quarter, and added his second TD halfway through the fourth as the Elks defeated Moorhead 44-32. The junior tallied 151 rushing yards on just 12 carries.

Nick Prentice, Orono. The junior quarterback went 11-for-23 passing for 302 yards and added another 68 yards on the ground in Orono’s 49-21 win over Bloomington Jefferson.

Aaron Robillard, North Branch. The senior quarterback ran for four rushing touchdowns and tallied nearly 500 total yards in a 50-30 win over Princeton. Robillard completed 15 of 29 passes for 287 yards and had 176 rushing yards.

David Roddy, Breck. The junior quarterback completed 18 passes for 295 yards and ran for a touchdown in a 37-19 win over Columbia Heights.

Connor Souba, Chaska. Souba averaged 8.4 yards per carry in a 24-17 victory over Coon Rapids. He ran for 134 yards and a fourth-quarter TD that tied the score and sent the game to overtime. The senior quarterback also finished 13-for-20 passing for 164 yards.

Mitchell Stanchina, Northfield. The junior accounted for two of Northfield’s touchdowns, including one on a 45-yard run in the fourth quarter, in a 31-14 win over Mankato East. Stanchina amassed 129 rushing yards and had 163 yards on seven receptions.
