The Prep Bowl is several months away, but this week features a potential preview of the Class 6A state championship.

The top two teams in the Star Tribune Metro preseason rankings meet this week as No. 2-6A Lakeville North (1-0, 1-0) travels to top-ranked Eden Prairie (1-0, 0-0).

Each team has won a majority of its games and has consistently made the state tournament in recent memory. However, you have to go back to 2008 for their last regular-season meeting. In 2012, the Eagles beat the Panthers in the state championship for their second of four straight titles.

A winning coach is at the helm of any perennial powerhouse, and that's no exception for both teams. Panthers coach Brian Vossen has won 57 games since taking over in 2011, and Eden Prairie's Mike Grant has compiled 69 wins in that span.

No matter what time of year, it is a treat to see two top programs meet head-to-head, but a sneak peak this early in the season is icing on the cake for this Top Game of the Week.
