Former Totino-Grace football standout Charlie Miller agreed to terms with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars.

Miller, who played safety at Dartmouth, was an undrafted free agent. The 6-0, 190-pound Miller displayed his 4.45-40 speed in nine games, starting eight, recording 41 tackles, 1½ for a loss.

He also had two interceptions, broke up five passes and served as the team’s punt returner, averaging 6.1 yards on 11 returns.

Miller also received Dartmouth’s Alan Hewitt ’34 and Robert Hewitt ’40 Award, given to the player who best epitomizes athletic performance with academic achievement.

‘Mini Mags’ no more

Amanda Anderson, a senior thrower on the St. Francis girls’ track and field team, earned an identity within her program.

As an eighth-grader in 2013, Anderson watched senior Maggie Ewen reset Minnesota records in the discus and shot put. Learning well, Anderson won the discus throw at the state championships last spring. This season she launched the discus 165 feet, 6 inches, good for third all-time.

She won the discus at the recent Hamline Elite Meet. Afterward, she told the crowd during an infield interview that she’s no longer known as “Mini Mags.” She’s earned the moniker “Big Amanda.”
