The regular season doesn’t get much better than a meeting between last year’s Class 4A finalists and, considering what Chanhassen and Buffalo bring back this season, there’s a real chance that there could be a repeat state championship game.
The Storm captured last year’s title with a 5-3 victory over the Bison and return all but one starter this season. University of Minnesota recruit Alex Velazquez has stepped into that vacant starting roll for Chanhassen.
Similarly, Buffalo lost a starting piece at shortstop, but is led by a talented junior class that includes another University of Minnesota recruit in Emily Hansen.
The Storm, the top-ranked team in Class 4A by the Minnesota High School Fastpitch Coaches' Association, have gotten into a real groove in the early season with their eyes on the state tournament already, while the Bison sputtered last week with losses to Blaine and Chisago Lakes. However, the Bison will be hungry to avenge last year's championship loss to kick start their 2017 title run.
This midseason meeting between No. 1-4A Chanhassen and No. 6-4A Buffalo in a rematch of last year's Class 4A championship makes this an easy pick for Top Game of the Week.
