The season begins with seven games on April 13, including a matchup between rivals Mahtomedi and Stillwater.

The Minnesota boys' lacrosse season opener falls on April 13 with seven games scheduled, including one in which Mahtomedi hosts neighbor Stillwater in an east metro and Section 4 rivalry that the Zephyrs have dominated this decade, winning the past eight meetings. However, a group of 19 Ponies return this season and will be looking to reverse the trend.

Juggernaut Eden Prairie begins its quest for a seventh straight state tournament appearance and squares off with Lake Conference rival Edina in the season opener on April 14. The Eagles will try to avenge two close losses to the defending league champion Hornets from a year ago (12-9 on May 3 and 5-4 on May 17) in this early battle between contenders for this year's Lake title.

The majority of the state's teams will begin playing their schedules in earnest on April 18.

Minnesota State High School League newcomer Grand Rapids kicks off its campaign on April 20, when the Thunderhawks take on Duluth, a co-op program that went 4-11 in its first MSHSL season last spring. Grand Rapids returns two of its Minnesota Boys’ Scholastic Lacrosse Association all-state selections in midfielder, Noah How, and defender, Kade Tix, from a season ago, along with 12 other players. Grand Rapids alumni Doug Jensen will coach the Thunderhawks in their inaugural season.

Two weeks later, Lakeville North will host defending state champion Prior Lake in a state title game rematch on May 9. The Panthers aim to avenge last spring’s 12-5 loss and look for an edge in the race to a championship of the South Suburban Conference, which embedded four teams in last year’s final top 10 rankings.

Northwest Suburban Conference foes Anoka and Blaine close the regular season on May 26 with a rematch of last year’s Section 7 title game. The Tornadoes found a goal with 56 seconds left in double overtime to clinch a 4-3 victory and advance to their first state tournament.
